Assignment Deliverables

Sew a minimum of 2 each of the following seams.

  • Plain Seam
  • French Seam
  • Mock Flat Felled Seam
  • Serged Seam
  • Serged Seam Topstitched
  • Busted Seam

Assignment Overview

  1. Cut out 12 4" x 7" pieces of fabric of similar weight.
  2. Using two pieces of fabric sew a plain seam along the 6" side of the fabric.
  3. Using two pieces of fabric sew a french seam along the 6" side of the fabric.
  4. Using two pieces of fabric sew a mock flat felled seam along the 6" side of the fabric.
  5. Using two pieces of fabric sew a serged seam along the 6" side of the fabric.
  6. Using two pieces of fabric sew a serged seam with topstitching along the 6" side of the fabric.
  7. Using two pieces of fabric sew a busted seam along the 6" side of the fabric.
  8. Using two pieces of fabric sew a true flat felled seam along the 6" side of the fabric.
  9. Stitch all of the seams together in a line along the 6" egdes to form a strip. For joing the fabric pieces together use a variety of seams. In the end you should have a minimum of 2 examples of each type of seam.
  10. Finish the edges of the strip with the serger or a folded hem. Each seam should be 7-9 inches long. The spacing between the seams should be at least an inch.
