06.03 How to Sew Pants

In this video, I will show you how to sew a pair of pants from start to finish. This is a beginner-friendly tutorial, so no prior sewing experience is required.

Materials Needed

  • Fabric (for the pants)
  • Pants Pattern
  • Thread
  • Needle
  • Sewing machine
  • Scissors
  • Iron
  • Tape measure
  • Pins

Instructions

  1. Cut out the fabric pieces for your pants. You can find a pattern for pants online or in a sewing book or duplicate a pair of pants you own
  2. Sew the side seams of the pants together. Leave a 1/2-inch seam allowance.
  3. Turn the pants right side out.
  4. Sew the inseam of the pants together. Leave a 1/2-inch seam allowance.
  5. Turn the pants right side out again.
  6. Sew the waistband to the pants. The waistband should be 1 inch longer than the circumference of your waist.
  7. Fold the waistband over and press it.
  8. Sew the waistband in place.
  9. Attach the buttons or zipper to the waistband.
  10. Enjoy your new pair of pants!

Tips

  • Use a good quality fabric that will hold up well to wear and tear.
  • Sew with a straight stitch and a 1/2-inch seam allowance.
  • Press your seams as you go to make them neat and even.
  • Use a sharp needle and thread that matches the color of your fabric.
