06.07 Select Three Public Domain Images

Assignment Deliverables

  1. Upload 3 original images sourced from the public domain
    • Label image files YYYY-MM-DD Lastname Firstname public domain original 1 (.png, .jpg, .tiff)
  2. Upload minimum 1 processed image
    • Label image file(s) YYYY-MM-DD Lastname Firstname public domain processed (.png, .jpg, .tiff)
  3. Upload a PDF or docx with information about the image and source URL
    • Label file YYYY-MM-DD Lastname Firstname image source information

Assignment Overview

Appropriate a minimum of 3 images and process a minimum of 1 for laser etching in preparation for printmaking. Images must be sourced from the public domain or be an image that you have a license to. The original images may not be created by you.

Process

  1. Search public domain image repositories for images to appropriate. Look for images that interest you and will hold your attention. Make sure to source images from reputable sites and do not rely on a search engine public domain classification.
  2. Record the source information about each image. Include the following information for each image in a document.
    • Title of Image if available
    • Creator of image if available
    • Date of creation if available
    • Location of image if available
    • Brief description of image and why you selected it
    • URL of image

  4. The laser etching process will “cut” away parts of the image on a woodblock. It is best is there is a clear deviding line between what is image and what is not image. Consider useing a halftone pattern since it allows for more high threshold detail in the print.
