05.08 Fab Studios Laser Cutter Instructions

  1. Prepare vector file or image file for laser cutting or laser etching.
  2. Go to Fab Studios during open hours and as a Studio Technician to assist you with the laser cutter.
  3. Transfer your file to the laser cutter computer in room 216.
  4. Secure your material to the laser cutter bed.
  5. Take an image of the material to confirm placement.
  6. Focus the laser.
  7. Place your file in Lightburn and move it to the location of your material based on the camera overlay.
  8. Select the different parts of your file that need to be in different operations. With the parts selected, pick a new color to create a new layer. Remember to etch and cut interior holes before cutting pieces out. Make sure the order of the layers is correct.
  9. Double check the placement of your file using the frame tool.
  10. Set the material settings for each layer based on the operation and material.
  11. Close the laser cutter.
  12. Turn on the exhaust filter.
  13. Press start.
  14. Observe the operation for any issues.
  15. Wait for smoke to clear before opening.
  16. Follow all instructions from the Studio Technician.
