Assignment Overview
Use 3D modeling tools to identify undercuts, simplify undercuts, and create a smoother ready to mold form.
Blender works better than Fusion 360 for high poly meshes. Although Fusion 360 has parametric features, for this application, Blender is likely the better choice. The complete process can be done in Blender and the mesh can be kept high poly. There is no need to reduce polygons with instant meshes if using Blender but it is ok to if desired.
Process
- Install the 3D Print Toolkit Blender Addon to assist with the detection and removal of undercuts, and scaling the bounds of your model.
- Use a combination of sculpting tools in Blender and the 3D Print Toolkit to remove undercuts .
- Use the 3D Print Toolkit to scale the bounds of you model to ~7-8 inches so it fits in the 3D printer.
