01.02 Make New Original Content Now In Class Exercise

Excercise Deliverables

  1. 3 photos of yourself with 1 showing hair in focus
  2. 3 photos of objects
  3. 1 photo of interior texture
  4. 1 photo of exterior texture
  5. 1 photo of exterior landscape
  6. 1 photo of interior scene
    • Label photos YYYYMMDD Lastname Firstname (image description).jpg

Process

  1. Checkout a mirroless camera from the Equipment Checkoutexternal link .
  2. Review the basic camera settings from class.
  3. With a partner:
    • Take 3 images of yourself. Collaborate with your partner to take images. Make sure the images are well lit and varied in composition angle, framing and scale. Make sure one image shows your hair in focus.
    • Take pictures of 3 objects. Make sure the objects are well lit and varied. It is a good idea to have a simple background behind the objects to make selection easier.
    • Take a picture of a minimum of 1 interior texture. The texture should fill the camera frame.
    • Take a picture of a minimum of 1 exterior texture. The texture should fill the camera frame.
    • Take a picture of an exterior landscape.
    • Take a picture of an interior scene.
  4. Bring the images back to the classroom and download / transfer / beam / put onto a folder on your desktop
    • Email the files to yourself
    • Use Airdrop, Use OneDrive, Use device’s USB, Use email
  5. Label the Folder 20250828 Digital 1 Week 1
  6. Label the Images YYYYMMDD Lastname Firstname (image description)
  7. Create a 11”x17” 360 ppi Adobe RGB (1998) Photoshop document. Label the file 20250828 Lastname Firstname in Class Exercise.psd.
  8. Save this document in your Week 1 folder.

Modify Your Content

  • Make Selection Masks of the pictures of you and the pictures of objects that you took using the Select and Mask Workspace shown in the demo.
  • Drag the layers with the layer mask to the Mashup Project tab. the selections onto new layers.
  • Use the Texture Images as backgrounds. Turn them to black and white. Then try using blending modes and masks to get the effect that you want.
  • Adjust the tone and color of the different layers to be similar.
  • Adjust the opacity (transparency) of the layers to blend them together.
  • Duplicate the layers and move them around the composition as a repetition of themes.
  • Use Generative Fill to edit and add information.
  • Continue to experiment.

In Class Progress Check

  1. Save your PSD file.
  2. Label the PSD file YYYYMMDD Lastname Firstname in Class Exercise.psd
  3. Export a JPG of the file.
  4. Label the JPG file YYYYMMDD Lastname Firstname in Class Exercise.jpg
  5. Upload to Canvas in Class Assignment
  6. Save all your work. Close Photoshop.
  7. Put all files in your week 1 folder on the desktop.
  8. Backup the entire Week 1 folder in the method of your choice.
