Overview

Students bring their production plans, physical elements, and digital environment into the XR Studio. They learn how a small crew coordinates the performer, camera, virtual environment, lighting, sound, and recording. Through this process, crew members use the live camera image to judge how the physical and virtual parts of the scene integrate.

Teams begin the session with a simple test shot. Operators confirm that the project loads, textures appear correctly, scale and perspective align, camera tracking responds accurately, and recorded clips playback smoothly. Crew members practice delivering clear recording cues, identifying each take systematically, and preserving all media files. Finally, students maintain a running log of technical issues and assign specific fixes before the next production session begins.

Learning Objectives

  • Explain the roles of the physical camera, tracking, Unreal Engine, disguise, LED wall, and recorder
  • Coordinate crew responsibilities and communicate when a take starts, ends, or needs to stop
  • Load and identify the correct project version with the studio operator
  • Frame a performer and physical props within the virtual environment
  • Test scale, perspective, tracking, focus, and recording through a simple shot
  • Record a test take and verify that the saved clip plays correctly
  • Document technical problems and assign follow-up work to the team
