05.00 Introduction
Overview
Students begin by listening to and discussing their peers’ podcast edits, analyzing how structure, pacing, and audio clarity shape the listener’s experience. Following this critique, creators shift their focus from recorded voices to digital characters designed to perform with captured human movement.
Each student develops an original character by modeling, sculpting, modifying 3D scans, combining existing assets, or transforming generated geometry. Throughout this design process, artists concentrate on establishing a readable silhouette and maintaining a humanoid bone structure compatible with their planned motion capture data. Students organize their Blender scenes, preserve unmodified source meshes in backup collections, and pack all external textures into the main file. Finally, each creator writes detailed descriptions of three repeatable movements to prepare for next week’s motion capture session.
Learning Objectives
- Give specific feedback on a podcast’s structure, editing, and sound quality
- Compare several ways to create a 3D character and select an appropriate approach
- Transform source material into a character with an intentional visual identity
- Identify how body structure and limb separation affect later rigging and animation
- Organize working and archived meshes in Blender collections
- Preserve textures and render an image that clearly presents the character
- Describe repeatable solo or group actions that can be captured in the XR Studio
