02.04 3D Scan Blender Render Assignment

Assignment Deliverables

  1. Blender file containing one imported photogrammetry scan
    • Label file YYYY-MM-DD Lastname Firstname 3D Scan (.blend)
  2. One rendered image made from the imported scan
    • Label file YYYY-MM-DD Lastname Firstname 3D Scan Render (.jpg)

Assignment Overview

Photogrammetry software creates a 3D mesh, but the resulting model may import into other software at an unexpected scale, position, or orientation. For this assignment, import one of your photogrammetry scans into Blender and create a rendered image from a new point of view.

The goal is to become comfortable navigating a 3D scene and working with a captured 3D asset before beginning more extensive 3D modeling.

Process

Import one of your photogrammetry captures into Blender.

Use the Blender navigation and transformation tools demonstrated in class to:

Your render should show the scan from a viewpoint that would have been difficult or impossible to photograph in the original location.

For example, position the virtual camera unusually high, low, close to the surface, behind the captured geometry, inside an opening, or somewhere that a physical camera could not easily have been placed.

Do not spend significant time cleaning or remodeling the scan. More extensive mesh editing and 3D modeling will be introduced later.
