Mesh Section Sketch Fusion external link

Video Transcript

How can I use a polygon mesh inside fusion and intersect it with sketch geometry? here. I have a mesh that I’ve imported into fusion. It’s something that I’m going to 3D print I want to make a laser cut stand for it, I want to know where it is. So of course I could guess by drawing around I want to know know where it is. I want to really know what parts are which I want to be able to draw a sketch and intersect with this mesh.

First I want to go up to the top level. This is up here at the top of the browser. Right click and make a new component. Inside this new component I’ll construct an offset plane vertical. then I can look from the back to see if I want to move it over a little bit, to be more in the center. I have this plane I’m going to draw my sketch on.

I can switch to the mesh workspace. here you can see it has create mesh section sketch. if I select this body and then the section plane I click this section press okay. You’ll see that if I hide the mesh now I can see exactly where it is. So this gives me an exact location for this sketch. can also make other section sketches. So if I make a new offset plane from this direction here, I can move it back. And remember these offset planes are editable.

Then on this sketch I have exactly where these sections are. The mesh are. So now I know exactly where these places are, and I can start building other geometry around these cross sections of the mesh. Hopefully this allows you to create cross section sketches from meshes imported into Autodesk Fusion. Happy 3D modeling!
